In view of the latest development of the epidemic, the Education Bureau (EDB) announced that all schools would resume classes as early as 2 March 2020, yet subject to further assessment. The EDB will continue to follow professional health advice, and take into consideration the readiness of schools as well as the supply of epidemic preventive equipment in the community, etc. in deciding the date of class resumption. During the deferral period of class resumption, the school remains open and has staff on duty. Parents may send their child/ward to school for self-study should they find it necessary. All students are required to wear masks at school and bring adequate masks with them.
I. Students travelling abroad should return to Hong Kong as soon as possible
We strongly urge students to avoid going to affected areas in order to reduce the risk of being infected.
Parents should arrange the students who are now travelling overseas to return to Hong Kong.
Students should stay at home, avoid going to crowded places and pay close attention to the health conditions.
Students should consult a doctor at once if feeling unwell and inform the health care provider of their travel record.
During the deferral period of class resumption, parents should refrain their children from attending group/extra-curricular activities (such as interest classes and tutorial classes) and must not allow their children to travel abroad.
According to the professional advice from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), the incubation period for novel coronavirus infection can last for 14 days. Students should stay at home as far as possible during the deferral period of class resumption to reduce the risk of infection.
To facilitate schools to prepare appropriate arrangements, the EDB requests schools to contact their students (excluding cross-boundary students) to understand whether they are in Hong Kong on or before 3 February 2020.
II. Learning arrangements during the deferral period of class resumption
Subject heads coordinate the assignments and learning progress during the deferral period of class resumption so that learning is not stopped. The guiding principles are as follows:
Students should not be required to return to school for the collection of learning materials.
Students make use of the textbooks and/or learning materials they already have access to.
Students engage in online learning where appropriate.
There is homework for all subjects except Music, Physical Education, Visual Arts, Computer Literacy and Ethics and Religious Studies.
Assignments of all subjects will be released on 5 February 2020 and 15 February 2020 respectively on Class WhatsApp groups and e-Class.
Students who are not in Class WhatsApp groups will be contacted by the class teachers by phone about the learning arrangements.
III. S6 Graduation Mass, Checking of Mock Examination papers and HKDSE Examinations arrangements
S6 Graduation Mass on 28 February will be cancelled until further notice.
S6 students should return to school for the checking of the mock examination papers on the first 2 school days after class resumes.
The EDB will closely follow up and evaluate the situation, maintain close liaison with the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA). For any changes concerning the examination arrangements, the HKEAA will announce as soon as practicable.
IV. Arrangements on class resumption
The school shall strengthen the cleaning of the premises and put in place all the preventive measures.
Parents should check the body temperature of their children at home. In any case, if students are feeling unwell or having symptoms, they should not attend schools. They should consult a doctor immediately and stay at home for rest.
The distribution of report cards and Parents’ Day will be postponed to 28 March 2020.
New Year Campus Run Carnival will be cancelled.
Hong Kong Catholic Diocesan Secondary Schools Joint Athletics Meet on 12 and 13 February 2020 will be cancelled until further notice.
All activities and competitions to be held before 2 March 2020 will be cancelled or postponed.
